July – Volunteer In Focus

Delighted to announce that this month’s Volunteer In Focus is Peter MacLellan.

Peter is the Vice Chairman at Portsmouth North End Cycling Club. Established in 1900, and is one of the oldest local clubs in our region.

Throughout the whole of COVID-19 Peter navigated the club rides for Portsmouth North End Cycling Club: for those wishing to group ride within Zwift, to facilitating 50 riders every week in COVID compliant groups. This has involved a considerable amount of preparation and planning including contacting local cafes to ensure that members were able to attend and be safe. Prior to the Covid restrictions Peter has also been one of the key figures since 2015 in planning group rides abroad to Belgium, South of France and Spain with great success.

Our clubs in the South region have many volunteers that represent our core values in a variety of different ways. Just one of Peter’s roles in leading club rides is not uncommon, but is a big role that should not be overlooked. Volunteers like Peter are needed in every club and their commitment is commendable.

“Peter has grown and developed a network of ride leaders, and together they have grown the club by 20% in 12 months! This is a huge achievement considering the devotion of personal time and effort. Peter has been working tirelessly to get Portsmouth North End Cycling Club on the map and thoroughly deserves to be acknowledged with this accolade”.
