Guernsey VC – Weekend Round Up

Our HSBC/Ian Brown’s Cycles Academy riders finally started their road crit season at ‘the Track’ on Tuesday after a couple of rained off events, although a dry course still didn’t provide enough grip for U16 rider Dan Clark as he crashed out of the evening’s first race at the chicane whilst leading from Chay Kennedy-Cook, who went on to take a clear solo win from. Dan was able to get back on his bike for the second race, and gradually pulled away from Chay towards the end of the 15 laps to make amends for his earlier slip up. With Dan nursing his road rash and deciding to sit out Wednesday’s Butterfield Flyers MTB race league, Chay ran out a clear winner from Charlie Tourtel and Miles Le Prevost in both races round a challenging Delancey Park circuit that involved plenty of climbing for the youth riders.

The weather couldn’t have been more different to our last 5mile TT on Saturday as Marc Cox made the most of a warm sunny morning. His time of 9:50 smashed James McLaughlin’s 8 year-old record by 15 seconds as he obliterated the rest of the field, leaving Chris Earles and Paul Brehaut a very distant second and third respectively. With plenty of riders scoring PBs in the favourable conditions, plenty of club records tumbled with Charlie Tourtel’s 13:05 taking the U13 boys record, Helena Duguid’s 12:35 both the U16 and U18 girls records, and Andrea Nightingale’s 12:53 beating her own O60 ladies record.

We returned to Delancey Park on Sunday for the 4th round of the Ian Brown’s Cycles Summer MTB XC series. The experienced trio of James Roe (feature pic), Andy Colver and Mike Serafin set the early pace before a puncture put pay to Mike Serafin’s chances on lap 7. James was then able to ease away from Andy to finish over 2 minutes clear after 11 laps, leaving Matt Osborn to take third after winning the battle with Mark Le Page and Andy Gibson, who also had to retire on lap 9 with a puncture as last round winner Brad Vaudin in the muggy weather.
