Guernsey VC – MTB Round Up

Sunday saw the second round of the Ian Brown’s Cycle shop MTB Summer XC Series at the Guernsey Land Rover Club trials course. Despite recent wet weather, riders faced a dry, dusty and very bumpy course which also included some gravel and open field sections, much to the interest of the resident bovine population!

With the top 3 finishers from the first round not in attendance, it was Brad Vaudin (below) and Alex Van Katwyk who set the early pace, building a lead of nearly a minute over the rest of the field by the end of lap 5 before the pace proved too hot for Alex as Brad then posted the fastest 3 laps of the race. With the race seemingly in the bag, Brad eased back slightly but was still able extend his advantage over the second half of the 16 lap race to win by over 90 seconds from Alex, with Mark Le Page finishing a further 30 seconds back in third.

Teenager Kylie Vaudin (feature pic) led the ladies race from start to finish and beat several much more experienced riders in the Advanced Men’s race as she posted some consistent laps times to finish well clear of Nor Holden in second and Frankie Middleton in third. Kylie ended the race just behind youngster Dan Clark (below), who earlier in the week had extended his 100% record in this year’s Flyers MTB racing league by pipping Chay Kennedy-Cook and Charlie Tourtel in both races at Delancey Park on Wednesday evening.
