Guernsey VC Racing Round UP

A compact weekend of racing across 3 events:

TT. Cold, windy weather and wet roads meant a slow TT on Saturday, with riders battling a strong headwind blowing in off the sea to the turn on the exposed Vazon 5 mile course. Only the winner Marc Cox (pictured above) dipped under 11 minutes, although that under sells his performance as he was the only rider in the top 13 on a road bike, with junior Oscar Webber second and veteran Tony Bleasdale rounding out the top 3. http://www.andydoveyphotography.com/2021-05-15-5tt.html

Hill Climb. The unsettled weather continued on Sunday, and an untimely downpour just before the start meant the course record of 33.7 seconds for the Town Centre hill climb up the High Street cobbles and then the 15% average gradient of Berthelot Street was never under threat. Recent Liberation Day road race winner Josh Saunders (pictured below) still put in a creditable 34.9 to finish clear of Thierry Le Cheminant with 35.7 and Adam Torode with 36.5. Hannah Brehaut was first woman with 48.2, ahead of Jamy Petit and U12 rider Sharlise Alderton.  HillClimb Results

MTB Down Hill. It also meant a wet and slippery race at La Pomare for the second round of the Adventure Cycles & Martyn Guille Silversmiths Summer DH Series. Round One winner John Mapley (pictured below) once again came out on top with the fastest two runs of the day and a best of 28.75 seconds, beating junior Fin Mechem who just pipped last round’s runner up Joe Collenette for second place.
