March – Volunteer In Focus

Congratulations to Will Jewitt for his nomination from the Region as we shine a light on a monthly basis as part of the British Cycling Volunteers In Focus initiative. A young rider giving back, plus hopefully learning something and having some fun along the way! Fantastic to see this profiled. Watch out for the March call for nominations…😃👍

“Will is an 18 year-old rider who took a gap year after college to spend the time racing as much as possible – the pandemic put a stop to that! Will has been mentoring and acting as a role model for the young riders in the area whilst he waits for the return of racing.

Will has contributed to the delivery of online sessions during the lockdown and helped to support younger riders whose parents can’t keep up as they learn to ride safely on the best local road riding routes when government guidelines have allowed people to ride together. No only that but Will has also stepped up as an event organiser for the first time, delivering as (curtailed) series of cyclocross events in September that gave him a new perspective on the work involved with putting on cycling events including event registrations, course design and set up, risk assessments (racing and Covid) and event administration. These events allowed local riders to make the most of the autumn window where racing was possible and Will, despite missing out on his own racing, played a huge role in helping riders get their competitive fix in the midst of the suspension of activities.”
